Maoist Centre not focused to topple down govt, says Prachanda

Dailekh, 18 May 2025: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' said that his party's focus is not to topple down the government. He said the Maoist Centre has not paid much attention to join the government anytime soon.

Addressing a mass meeting in Dailekh on Sunday as part of the party's Awakening Campaign along the Mid Hill Highway, he accused the current government of moving to the wrong direction and stated that the government has even dissolved the good beginnings of the erstwhile Maoist-led government.

Prachanda stated that his party would strongly put forth the demands and needs of the people to the government after completing the party's Awakening Campaign. During his address, the former Prime Minister shared about his party's role in addressing the key issues of the country including the role in constitution promulgation.

Saying that the development of Mid Hill Highway was proposed during his first term as the PM, he added that the decision was taken considering the welfare of the people living in the country's mid hills and Himalayan region. He viewed that the development of the Mid Hill Highway would bring about positive changes in economic, social and tourism sectors along the route. On the occasion, he argued that the Maoist Centre came to the power with the force of people, not by any other political parties' mercy.

Maoist Centre's senior vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, vice-chairs Nanda Kishor Pun, Agni Sapkota and Pampha Bhusal, general secretary Dev Gurung, leaders Janardan Sharma, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, Kali Bahadur Malla and others were present at the event.
