National Conference on Statistics and Statistical Science begins today

Kathmandu, 29 May 2025: National Conference on 'Emerging Trends and Applications of Statistics and Data Science', (NCETASD), jointly organized by the Nepal Statistical Society and Orchid College, has begun at Orchid College, Kathmandu from today. The National Conference will be held for two days.

Inaugurating the program, Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University, Prof. Dr. Shankar Prasad Khanal, said that the 21st century is the era of statistics. He expressed the view that statistics play an important role in every sector as statistics are the main source of evidence in the evidence-based decision-making process. 

"There is a vast field in the field of statistical science. Statistical principles should be applied to the decision-making process in every field," he said. 

Delivering a welcome speech at the program, Orchid College Principal Bidur Dahal said that the college has learned a lot from organizing national-level workshops since last year and that the college is committed to continuing such programs in the coming year as well.

 

Vice President of the Society, Assistant Professor Dr. Bijayalal Pradhan, delivering a welcome speech at the program said that it is believed that the conference will help professors, students, and scholars who have been studying and teaching statistics in the field of statistics to gain information about contemporary emerging trends and create new knowledge. 

In the inaugural session, Chief Guest and Dean Prof. Dr. Khanal presented a working paper as part of his keynote speech on the topic 'The Future of Statistics in the Context of Modern Statistics and Artificial Intelligence'.

The program is attended by more than 70 people, including professors teaching statistics, students studying, and researchers from across the country. The society's Vice President, Associate Professor Dr. Bijayalal Pradhan, informed that about three dozen working papers will be presented and discussed at the conference in different categories such as new approaches, public health and biostatistics, environmental sector, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and GenAI.

The inaugural session of the program was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ram Prasad Khatiwada, President of the Nepal Statistical Society and former Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University. Godhalo Khabar.com is also a media partner in the program.
